Virtual Grid Combat Engine

I'm developing Virtual Grid Combat Engine (VGCE), a plugin for RPG Maker MV. Ideally the party and enemies are placed in grids to allow more strategic combat by enabling attacks such as sweeping a row or blasting a column of enemies. The party in 2x2 grid at the bottom. Enemies are placed in grids ideally 3x3 for difficulty balance. More grids mean more enemies may appear at once if so desired, but may raise the game's difficulty.

So far, I have placed the party members in a grid, as shown below.
