MTG Utilities: Cards and Decks

The coding for making card links and deck lists is completed. This page will teach you how to use them in your posts. Besides typing the shortcodes, you can also use the corresponding buttons on the toolbar when creating or editing your post.

To make links to cards, enclose the card name with [ card] [/card] tags. As a result, the reader will see the card name as a link to an online card database. (Default is This option can be modified by the WordPress admin.)
[ card]Lord of Atlantis[/card] becomes Lord of Atlantis

Alternate Name

An optional attribute is 'alt'. You use it when you want to display some other text besides the card name. Syntax is like this:
[ card alt="Displayed Text"]Card name[/card]
[ card alt="Finkel"]shadowmage infiltrator[/card] becomes Finkel

Card Image

Users can hover the mouse over the card link to display a pop-up image of the card. An author can also display an image of the card on the page by using the optional attribute 'image=1'. (This option must be enabled by the WordPress admin.)
[ card image=1]Card name[/card]
[ card image=1]Lord of Atlantis[/card] becomes

You can insert a deck list neatly into your post with the [ deck] [/deck] tags. Put the amount (optional) and name of each card on its own line and it will turn into a link. Separate sections with a blank line. Sections are distributed as evenly as possible across two columns--if odd sections, the middle section appears in the left column. Just write 'Sideboard' on its own line to begin a sideboard. You can comment each card with two hyphens -- or curly brackets {} after the card. Double slash // at the beginning of a line also becomes a bolded comment (suitable for section headers). Use the optional 'title' attribute to give your deck a name.
[ deck title="Amuseum's Deck"]
// Lands
20 Island {by Terese Nielsen}

// Creatures
4 Lord of Atlantis --Melissa Benson original pls.

// Spells
4 Counterspell

// Sideboard
Tidebinder Mage

produces this:

  1. hi Thank you for your sharing!

    this is wonderful. especiall i could now show a card with its name in our local language, while it is not in Wotc Gatherer.

    I have a Q regard to the deck tag.

    1) i found i cant have the deck showed in the way you demo at the page here. It would be in 2 columns. left is the content, while left is the card image

    2) i found double slash doesn't work.

    May i know if there is anything i could do to fix this? coz the function is really cool. and i dun want to waste it. thx!
